Management of long COVID in children

A new consultation specialising in the management of long-standing COVID in children has been set up at the HUG.

The term "post-COVID", or "long COVID", describes the illness in people who, several weeks or even months after infection with SARS-CoV-2, still present symptoms such as loss of taste or smell, fatigue, headaches, abdominal pain, shortness of breath and mood disorders.

Many of these symptoms have also been observed in children long after infection, sometimes with few symptoms. Post-COVID seems to affect adolescents and pre-adolescents in particular. It is for this reason that a specialised consultation for 10-18 year olds has been opened within the HUG's adolescent consultation, under the responsibility of Dr Anne Perrin, head of clinic, and Dr Marianne Caflisch, assistant doctor in charge of the adolescent consultation.
